Krispy Kreme brings back fan-favorite menu item after 6 years

Returning to work after the long 4th of July weekend can be very difficult for some, especially when waking up at the crack of dawn to make it to the office on time.

However, having something to look forward to can help, and Krispy Kreme is giving morning commuters a good reason to leave the house extra early on Monday morning.

Because mornings are often a race against time, making breakfast is the last thing on many people’s minds. This usually leads to our stomachs growling all morning, making food the only thing we can think about until lunchtime.

Nothing is quicker and tastes better than doughnuts and coffee, and although Krispy Kreme might have ended its partnership with McDonald’s  (MCD) , people’s usual go-to breakfast when in a rush, this returning fan favorite might make them swap their usual McMuffin for this latest re-launch.

Krispy Kreme banishes a fan-favorite menu item

Krispy Kreme  (DNUT)  introduced the Chocolate Glazed Doughnut nationwide in 2017 as a special release for the “Great American Eclipse,” a rare total solar eclipse that only occurs every 100 years.

Although its launch was supposed to be a one-time event, the demand and feedback for this limited-time doughnut were so positive that Krispy Kreme returned it the following year, but this time, in celebration of World Chocolate Day.

The Chocolate Glazed Doughnut was not seen again after its second release, but fans continued to show interest in it by asking the chain to do a relaunch.

Just when fans thought they would never get to taste the beloved doughnut again, Krispy Kreme brought it back last summer after a six-year hiatus.

However, the company has previously removed the Chocolate Glazed Doughnut from the menu, which caused customers’ confidence in another re-launch to remain shaky.

Krispy Kreme makes a major move to win over fans

In honor of World Chocolate Day, Krispy Kreme announced it’s bringing back the fan-favorite Chocolate Glazed Doughnut, but this time with a major twist, and for a very limited time.

Krispy Kreme has teamed up with Hershey  (HSY)  to launch an improved Chocolate Glazed Doughnut made for the first time with Hershey’s chocolate glaze.

Krispy Kreme and Hershey have been partners since 2018, when they launched the first-ever edition of the Chocomania Collection. However, they had never created a Chocolate Glazed Doughnut edition together — until now.

This year, the fan-favorite doughnut will be released on July 7, the same day as World Chocolate Day, for one day only, and will be available at all participating Krispy Kreme locations nationwide.

To encourage customers to try the limited-time doughnut and boost sales, those who purchase a dozen Chocolate Glazed Doughnuts will receive a “buy one dozen, get one 50% off” deal.

Customers can choose Chocolate Glazed Doughnuts or a mix of any other doughnuts, and the second dozen will be half off.

This new launch is a win-win for both companies, since they have faced recent business troubles.

Hershey’s North America Confectionery sector declined 15% during the first quarter of fiscal 2025.

In addition to Krispy Kreme ending its longstanding partnership with McDonald’s, its net revenue was also down over 15% during the first quarter of fiscal 2025.
