Supermarket giant unveils fantastic offer for parents

When people find themselves struggling to make conversation, they’ll often resort to talking about the weather. It’s the sort of topic that lends to an easy discussion, even with strangers.

These days, rather than talk about the weather, it’s become common to talk about the high cost of living.

Whether it’s egg prices, utility bills, or property taxes, everyone’s expenses seem to be going up — and at a pace their paychecks can’t keep up with.

Of course, there’s a pretty easy explanation for that.

Inflation began soaring in the wake of the pandemic. And while it’s cooled since peaking in 2022, living costs never got an opportunity to go back to normal.

These days, inflation is only mildly elevated, at least on paper. But because costs never had a chance to revert to pre-pandemic levels, consumers are stuck in a holding pattern where they’re paying more for just about every essential under the sun.

Back-to-school expenses are a huge budget-buster

There’s a reason parents tend to hate the start of August. Not only does it signify the beginning of the end of summer, but it’s when many households have to truly stretch their budgets to tackle their back-to-school shopping lists.

The reality is that even frugal-minded parents only have so much control over what back-to-school shopping costs them.

With classrooms across the country being sorely underfunded, it’s not uncommon for teachers to request a host of school supplies, from markers to glue sticks to tissue boxes. And the cost there can really add up.

That doesn’t even account for child-specific needs like clothing, footwear, backpacks, and sports equipment.

The average parent is expecting to spend $570 per child on back-to-school items this year, according to Deloitte. That’s not a small amount, especially for households that are already struggling to make ends meet.

Meijer launches generous back-to-school offer for parents

It’s hard enough bearing the cost of raising kids during normal times. In today’s economic times, it’s even more difficult.

The good news, though, is that Meijer is stepping up and throwing parents a bone.

Meijer is dropping prices on back-to-school basics that include pencils, folders, crayons, and more. Many items will be priced at $1 or less, with some items going as low as $0.25.

Meijer is also making it easier for parents to tackle their back-to-school shopping with its digital school supply list technology.

Parents can search by school and teacher to identify the items they need to buy, and add them to their carts with a simple click.

On top of offering deep savings to parents on school supplies, Meijer is also offering teachers a 15% discount on school supplies and home office equipment through September 7.

Even better, the retail giant plans to offer 15% coupons to teachers on a regular basis throughout the year so they can restock their classrooms more affordably.

More Retail:

With more than 500 store locations throughout the Midwest, Meijer is already known as an affordable place to shop. This new offer is one parents are apt to appreciate at a time when every dollar of savings counts.
