Stock-market futures are little changed this morning after the S&P 500 eked out a 0.06% gain in trading yesterday.
As we count down to the opening bell, here are the highlights (and lowlights) from the past 24 hours in the market. Plus, what you need to keep your eye on today.
Tuesday Recap: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Tuesdays are traditionally quieter for earnings. Still, there were plenty of reports to write home about.
The great: Positive reports from health care company Iqvia (IQV) and homebuilder DR Horton (DHI) helped lift their respective sectors, returning depth to a market that has struggled to find it in recent weeks.
The good: In its first earnings report since completing its acquisition of Discover Financial Services, Capital One (COF) reported higher interest income and fees. Really, the only drag was the higher-than-expected integration costs for the business. COF stock rose 2.7% in after-hours trading Tuesday and is 2.7% higher premarket Wednesday.
The bad: Northrop Grumman (NOC) stock went north to the tune of 9%. Its defense compatriots RTX (RTX) and Lockheed Martin LMT registered steep losses, a byproduct of weaker earnings reports.
The ugly: AI plays were dragging on the major indexes all day, but matters didn’t improve after Texas Instruments TXN issued a weak forecast, overshadowing its beat on the top and bottom line. It fell 10% after hours, putting it in ranks with General Motors (GM) , which was similarly situated after reporting a $1.1 billion hit from the Trump administration’s tariffs.
Stock Market (a.m. and p.m.)
In total, we’re looking for reports from 156 companies today per Nasdaq. This morning, some of the big reports include:
- Telecom giant AT&T (T) . Competitor Verizon (VZ) reported on Monday, to mixed results.
- NextEra Energy (NEE) , the world’s most valuable electric utility company.
- GE Vernova (GE) , the energy equipment and manufacturing giant, which will look to give investors fuel to continue its 67% year-to-date rally.
However, like a monolith over Wall Street, traders will likely be basing most of their day on what awaits after the bell. The first major megacaps will report this evening: Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) , Tesla (TSLA) and IBM (IBM) will lead the charge.
