While the main airport serving the New England capital of Boston is Logan International Airport (BOS), the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) is often chosen by low-cost airlines for the lower airport taxes and greater availability of gate slots.
The regional airport is located 52 miles, or just an hour’s drive, across the border in neighboring New Hampshire.
American Airlines (AAL) flies into MHT from Chicago, Charlotte, and Philadelphia, while budget carriers that serve it include JetBlue Airways (JBLU) , Southwest Airlines (LUV) , Breeze Airways and, for just a few months more, Avelo Airlines.
“Made the difficult decision to pause service”: Manchester-Boston Regional Airport
Houston-based ultra-low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines confirmed to a local news outlet that on January 5, 2026, it will suspend all service into Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
The airline had previously run permanent flights into the airport from North Carolina’s Raleigh-Durham, Wilmington, and Concord-Padgett (USA) regional airport, as well as a seasonal flight to South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach.

This means that MHT will lose all service from Avelo in the first months of 2025; the airline hinted at the fact that it may make a return once the flights for the summer season are announced.
“Avelo unfortunately made the difficult decision to pause service at MHT, with their latest flight scheduled to depart on January 5, 2026,” Manchester-Boston Regional Airport now states on its website. “They plan to continue to explore opportunities in MHT and hope to return for the summer 2026 season once they identify the right mix of markets and frequencies.”
At the start of 2025, Avelo Airlines listed a peak of 48 domestic destinations on its website. After launching in 2021, the carrier quickly built out a customer base by flying into regional airports and secondary cities too small to be served by mainstream airlines.

Had an Avelo flight out of Manchester Regional booked? This is what you need to know
Throughout 2025, Avelo struggled with both lower traffic on certain routes and the public relations problem that arose over its choice to continue running migrant deportation flights for the federal government.
Last August, the carrier suspended all West Coast operations by shutting down bases in Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) and Charles M. Schulz Airport (STS), while also cutting its last flight to California from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas.

For those who booked travel on one of these flights beyond the cancellation date, the Avelo website states that anyone for whom “the next available flight time is not a viable option” can “cancel the reservation on the impacted flight and refund your purchase to your original form of payment.”
Seasonal flights that get retired without renewal are not eligible for refunds, as travelers would not have been able to book any travel beyond the cancellation date.
The general standard when service gets pulled suddenly due to a network shakeup is for the airline to contact any affected travelers with rebooking or refund options.
