The Mexican fast-food sector has faced challenges in 2025 that have led to several chains closing multiple locations.
Del Taco franchisee Newport Ventures closed 18 locations in Colorado in March 2025 after a franchise dispute. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2024 and later converted the case to a Chapter 7 liquidation in July 2025, according to PacerMonitor.
Jack in the Box sells Del Taco
The Mexican restaurant chain’s parent corporation, which did not file for bankruptcy, got better news on Oct. 16, 2025, when Jack in the Box Inc. revealed that it would sell Del Taco Holdings Inc., which operates and franchises 550 Del Taco restaurants, to Yadav Enterprises Inc. for $115 million in cash.
The sale is expected to close in January 2026.
But another Mexican fast-food chain didn’t have good news as San Antonio, Texas-based Taco Cabana, which operates about 141 fast-food locations, revealed in October 2025 that it would close five underperforming San Antonio area locations, Nation’s Restaurant News reported.
And now a smaller Mexican fast-food chain is also closing locations.

The restaurant chain’s owners said that they will continue operating Quesadilla Gorilla locations in Fresno, Calif., Visalia, Calif., and a franchise in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The company still has plans to open a new location in Clovis, Calif., at the beginning of 2026, the Facebook post said.
