Is the stock market open on Black Friday 2025?

The economy is on everyone’s mind these days — no matter how hard you try, it’s impossible to ignore the headlines focused on economic news 24/7.

For some people, the stock market is the economy, even though plenty of economists and institutions like Charles Schwab say the cliche is not true. Still, many of us keep a close watch on what’s happening on the trading floors.

If you’re one of those people, you are probably curious about the two main equity markets — the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq — and their regular holiday and early-close hours, even if you don’t celebrate the holidays.

Days on which the NYSE and Nasdaq close every year

On 10 days each year, the stock market is closed entirely, according to the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq holiday calendars.

Every year the stock market is closed on:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Washington’s Birthday (aka President’s Day)
  • Good Friday
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth National Independence Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

When the major holiday, such as the 4th of July or Christmas Day, falls on a weekend, the closure will be observed on the nearest Friday or Monday.

Some days before or after the official holiday also have “early-close” hours. This includes Black Friday.

Stock market Black Friday hours 2025

Yes, the U.S. equity markets are open on Black Friday 2025.

The markets usually open at 9:30 a.m. Eastern and close at 4 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

However, in addition to the holiday closures listed above, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq also have “unusual” early-close hours on certain days of the year.

This includes the Friday after Thanksgiving, aka Black Friday.

On Black Friday 2025, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will open as usual at 9:30 a.m. EST on November 28, but will close early at 1 p.m. EST, per the official NYSE calendar.

The other early close days each year are: July 3 (the day before Independence Day) and December 24, Christmas Eve.

The markets close early on these days because the trading volume is lower than usual.
