Pepsi quietly discontinued a popular cola flavor

PepsiCo has shared plans to cut about 20% of its snacks, sodas, and other products in order to appease an activist investor. Those cuts, however, have not started, and the company has not shared exactly which items will be discontinued.

That does not mean that the Coca-Cola rival has not been making cuts.

In 2025, for example, it got rid of Pepsi Nitro, a product it had launched with great fanfare just three years earlier

“Pepsi is taking on its most ambitious feat yet, reimagining the cola experience with a massive innovation — Nitro Pepsi. Nitro Pepsi is the first-ever nitrogen-infused cola that’s actually softer than a soft drink — it’s creamy, smooth, and has a mesmerizing cascade of tiny bubbles topped off by a frothy foam head,” the company shared in a press release.

Nitro Pepsi didn’t sell in sufficient quantities, and PepsiCo allowed it to go out of production.

That’s something the company has decided to do again with another popular Pepsi flavor, Pepsi Peach.

PepsiCo drops Pepsi Peach with no warning

Pepsi used to warn fans, at least really astute ones, when it was killing a popular flavor by noting it on its product locator website. When the company discountiued Nitro Pepsi it shared on that site that it was no longer being produced but was still available in certain stores.

That allowed fans and collectors to make a final purchase before it went away forever.

It wasn’t quite the 1980s when many of us hoarded “Classic Coke” before New Coke arrived, but it did give people a chance to say goodbye.

PepsiCo, however, offered no advance notice of the latest soda it has discontinued.

More Retail:

“In a move that’s left fans both surprised and disappointed, Pepsi has quietly discontinued one of its more beloved and unique flavors: Peach Pepsi. There was no grand announcement, no farewell campaign — just a gradual disappearance from store shelves that savvy consumers quickly picked up on,” Delishably reported.

Fans did report on social media that Peach Pepsi was disappearing from store shelves.

PepsiCo no longer shows Pepsi Peach on its Product Locator page.

Nitro Pepsi was a surprising cut.

2025 PepsiCo and Coca-Cola discontinued flavors

PepsiCo commented on some of its killed off flavors.

“PepsiCo’s beverage portfolio is always evolving to reflect shifting consumer tastes and seasonal trends — bringing fresh, exciting flavors to market that surprise and delight our fans,” a PepsiCo spokesperson told Today.com

Coca-Cola said similar things in 2020 when it discontinued TaB among other sodas and beverages.

“We are taking the tough but important steps to identify those products that are losing relevance and therefore should exit the portfolio,” said a statement from Cath Coetzer, global head of innovation and marketing operations.

Arielle Rose, senior industry research analyst at IBISWorld, said that sales of traditional carbonated soft drinks in the United States “have gone flat,” according to Beverage Industry.

She noted that consumer interest in lower‑sugar and alternative beverages is driving beverage companies to diversify their product offerings (e.g., low‑ and zero‑calorie sodas and other beverages).
