There’s a reason why mini keychains, vintage-style digital cameras, and blind boxes are so popular right now, which makes the popularity of the Kodak Charmera not surprising to me at the slightest. They remind me of simpler times, from the excessive amount of keychains I’d have on my school backpack to the series of both digital and point-and-shoot film cameras glued to my hand since I was a kid. And not to mention, it’s just so cute. As a collectible blind box, you can get one of seven camera designs, one of which is a rare, transparent edition. I got the black camera with the rainbow, but would’ve loved any pick.

The Kodak Charmera can take both photos and videos, despite its tiny size. It has a 1.6-megapixel resolution, and takes low-resolution photos reminiscent of a disposable camera and videos much like handheld camcorders. It doesn’t come with a micro SD card, but can support any between 1 gigabyte (GB) to 128 GB. But it does come with a USB-C charging cable, as the built-in battery is rechargeable. The mini camera has four photo frames to pick from, as well as seven different photo filters, making it even more fun to use and play around with. It even has a date stamp available, which adds a nostalgic touch that you’d see when developing photos back in the day.
Does it take the best photos of any camera I’ve ever used? No. But that’s not the point. This mini camera brings back the joy of taking photos for the fun of it. The fact that it doubles as a bag charm is a bonus, too.
