Iconic Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel closing down without reopening date

Tokyo Disneyland was The Walt Disney Company’s first theme park foray into Asia in April 1983.

Disneyland Hong Kong followed 22 years later with a park initially made up of the four Main Street, Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland lands. At a total resort area of 310 acres and a daily visitor cap of 34,000 people, it is the smallest of the current 12 Disney theme parks around the world.

The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel opened at the same time as the rest of the park as a six-story, five-star resort built in the Victorian style and located approximately a 15-minute walk from the theme park on Lantau Island.

Along with the Explorers Lodge and Disney Hollywood Hotel, it is one of three themed hotels built for those who want to stay near the park and take the Disney theme beyond the park gates.

Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel closes for renovations on Oct. 12

After 21 years of operation since Disneyland came to Hong Kong in September 2005, Disney confirmed that the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel will shut down for an undetermined period of time on Oct. 12 for renovations and “comprehensive enhancements to elevate our facilities, services, and the overall guest experience.”

Beyond announcing the purpose of the closure, Disney has not provided a reopening date for the hotel. Disneyland Hong Kong said that the Explorers Lodge and Disney Hollywood Hotel will “continue to offer the same high standard of Disney hospitality” as it prepares for a “newly enhanced Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel in the future.”

Guests will not be able to book stays at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel for the length of the renovations, the exact details of which have not been released by Disney.

The existing resort had 400 rooms, five dining facilities, including meet-and-greet character dinners, and an indoor and an outdoor pool, as well as tennis courts, go-karts, and multiple outdoor playgrounds with various Disney characters and themes.

The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is one of three themed hotels near the Asian theme park.

When will the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel reopen to visitors?

Renovation has already begun and has been in progress during daytime hours since June 2026, as it remained open to guests. Without an announced reopening date, Disneyland Hong Kong guests who want to stay at a more upscale property can only check the Disney website for any updates.

Around the world in Orlando, the Grand Floridian Resort is another five-star hotel built in the Victorian style that’s undergoing significant renovations, as facilities are beginning to show signs of age since opening in 1988.

The Grand Floridian Café, the casual table-service restaurant at the center of the main floor and hotel lobby, has been closed down since July 2026 for wide-scale renovations.

One lodge section of the Animal Kingdom Lodge near the animal-themed park is also closed this fall amid wider refurbishments that are expected to last until January 2027.

In both cases, the hotels remain open to guests even if they may encounter blocked-off areas and other signs of construction during their stay.
