A luxury hotel chain opened its first location in Vietnam

With demand for luxury travel growing significantly faster than the rest of the industry, high-end hotel giants have been eyeing locations beyond the main metropolises and traditional luxury destinations.

Hyatt, Hilton, and Capella have all either opened or are in the process of developing new luxury properties in different parts of Taiwan, while French hotel giant Accor is slated to open the 160-room Sofitel Rishikesh Narendra Nagar in 2030.

Located in the north of India in the Himalayan Mountains, the sacred Hindu city of Rishikesh is often called the “Yoga Capital of the World” due to its great cultural importance for practitioners.

The latest luxury hotel to open its doors is the Accor-owned Fairmont Hanoi. Located in the Vietnamese capital’s historic Old Quarter, the 241-room property has been in development for years as tourist numbers to Vietnam continue to rise. The hotel officially opened its doors to booked guests at the start of February.

New Fairmont Hanoi celebrates “rich cultural heritage” of the city

With design overseen by the Perkins Eastman and Aston Design firms, the property has eight restaurants and bars, a 38,000-square-foot spa and wellness area, and a large ballroom to accommodate larger group celebrations. Of the 241 rooms, 38 are Fairmont Gold premium rooms, while an additional 12 are suites.

Some of the restaurants include sushi and teppanyaki counter Hiryu and modern Vietnamese fine dining restaurant led by Vietnamese-Australian celebrity chef Luke Nguyen. A pool and terrace bar also offer rooftop views over Hanoi, with both the interior and outdoor spaces of the hotel designed with natural tones and greenery to recreate a garden feel and evoke the Vietnam coast.

Marriott, Four Seasons also plan new properties in Hanoi

With Vietnam and its capital in particular experiencing a spike in international arrivals between 2024 and 2025 (Hanoi saw a 20.8% increase in visitors, according to VietNamNet), major chains have been working to open more new Hanoi properties.

As part of its wider Vietnam expansion, Marriott is under agreement to build the new 494-room Co Loa Marriott Hotel in Hanoi, as well as Ritz-Carlton properties in Saigon and Ho Chi Minh City, Travel and Tour World reports.

Travel news:

Currently under construction, the new Four Seasons Hotel Hanoi at Hoan Kiem Lake in the historic center of Hanoi is also slated to open its doors by 2030.

In addition, other development groups have set their sights on the coastal city of Da Nang, which is sought out by island-hoppers and serves as a gateway to the central region of Vietnam.
