There’s no time better than summertime to take a trip. While airline prices may be fluctuating and many destinations can be crowded, it doesn’t all have to be so stressful. If you have well-designed luggage to help your hotel room stay in order, then you’ve already won one of the most difficult battles for any traveler, which is messiness and clutter in your temporary domicile. While some people may be meticulous sticklers for putting all of their clothes in the hotel closet or dresser, not everyone wants to remove every item of clothing from their bags. If you plan on shopping at all during your trip, then staying organized is even more important.
If you’re one of those travelers who prefers to keep your belongings inside your bag for the most part, then there are options for you when it comes to carry-on bags and suitcases. While it can be frustrating to rifle through the main compartment of a suitcase to find a specific item, you may not have to participate in this frustrating dance much longer. Smart shoppers have learned that Amazon offers some of the most creative solutions for finicky globe-trotters, and I found one option that may beat out all the rest for my all-time favorite.
Edison Lap Flip Rolling Carry-On Suitcase
The Edison Lab Flip Rolling Carry-On Suitcase might be the most clever design of any suitcase I’ve ever seen. It takes the problem of mid-trip clutter and virtually eliminates it altogether. At the basic level, this is just a great rolling carry-on. It has a capacity of 47 liters, making it large enough for a mid-length trip, but small enough to fit within airline carry-on requirements. The polycarbonate hard shell sides are durable and built to last. That said, they’re also lightweight enough that they won’t cause a lot of extra heft to the bag’s overall weight. The four nylon spinner wheels will keep you rolling smoothly through the terminal, and the bag is available in two colorways. However, the real magic happens when you open the bag upon arrival.
The suitcase has a vertical open design. Once unzipped, one half of the bag lifts up, resulting in both open sides of the suitcase facing the same direction, with one on top of the other. The bottom half of the bag has three large open shelves or cubbies, with another three medium- sized cubbies just above. The top three each have a lip on the front to prevent items from falling out. At the very top is one more shelf with a large backdrop and another lip in the front. This top section might be ideal for perfumes, colognes, and other toiletries. I can’t think of a better way to make a compact hard side carry-on perform the duties of a much larger bag once you’re actually in your hotel room.
The importance of suitcase organization
As was mentioned above, traveling is already stressful enough without adding the frustration of a messy hotel room and missing articles of clothing to the mix. If you have a good way of organizing your bag, then you can be sure that your hotel will serve as a relaxing respite from your work, long days of sightseeing, or visiting family. Aside from the general sense of well-being you’ll get from having a hotel room that’s not an utter disaster, there’s another practical benefit of a suitcase that doubles as its own closet.
I’ve travelled a lot, and I can’t even remember how many times I’ve accidentally left a small item behind in my hotel room because I missed it when doing a final passthrough of the room. If you have a suitcase, though, that allows everything to remain housed inside for the duration of your trip, you’ll never have to worry about re-packing and accidentally leaving something important behind. This alone is reason enough for many forgetful travelers like me to buy one of these carry-on bags. While you can certainly keep all of your items in any bag while traveling, doing so without some form of cubbies or shelving built into the bag is a recipe for disaster. By the end of the trip, your bag will look like it’s been rifled through multiple times by someone rather unwell, because it likely has. You truly can’t go wrong with a suitcase that gives you all the tools you need to stay organized while away from home.
