Running for two hours and 20 minutes, the flight between Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) in central Oregon and Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) just outside of Los Angeles has in recent months landed on the chopping block for more than one airline, reported The Bulletin in Bend, Oregon.
As part of its wider exit from the West Coast, low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines canceled this route earlier than the initial retirement date of Dec. 2. As part of the justification, a spokesperson for the Houston-based airline spoke of “aircraft needs elsewhere and lack of demand during our final month.”
Initially planning to pick up the flight in March 2026, low-cost competitor Breeze Airways has now also announced that it will axe the Burbank-Redmond route before it is set to begin.
The Salt Lake City-based airline still plans to launch service from Redmond Municipal to Utah’s Provo and Las Vegas while also canceling a route to Redmond from Eugene Airport (EUG) in Oregon.
“Adjustments in order to maximize our limited resources”: Breeze Airways
This comes after Alaska Airlines started running the same flight between Redmond and Burbank in October 2025. According to Breeze Airways spokesperson McKinnley Matson, the decision to not run the flight also comes down to maximizing its fleet to markets that see the greatest demand.
“While we never enjoy cutting service (especially before it begins), we occasionally need to make adjustments to our schedule in order to maximize our limited resources,” Matson said to local outlet KTVZ News.

As the two flights have not yet launched, customers are not affected by the cancellations and so cannot claim refunds unless they already purchased tickets several months in advance (in such cases, Breeze confirmed that any affected customers will be contacted by the airline).
The axing of the Eugene route means that Breeze will not serve this southern Oregon city at all.

“This ensures continued direct access to the Burbank area for Central Oregon travelers”
“We’re pleased to share that Alaska Airlines began offering daily nonstop service between Redmond and Burbank as of Oct. 26,” Redmond Airport spokesperson Jodi Low said of the first route that will now be run exclusively by Alaska Airlines. “This ensures continued direct access to the Burbank area for Central Oregon travelers.”
On its website, Breeze Airways states that it flies to more than 80 destinations across the United States and internationally.

In September, the airline announced that it would start running its first international flights to Cancun International Airport (CUN) from Virginia’s Norfolk and South Carolina’s Charleston in January 2026 and New Orleans and Rhode Island’s Providence by February.
As part of its wider efforts to expand beyond its core market of smaller cities underserved by mainstream airlines, Breeze is also planning flights to Montego Bay in Jamaica and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for later in the upcoming spring.
“We’re excited to bring the same convenience and elevated experience they love about our domestic flights to three exciting new international destinations,” Breeze founder and CEO David Neeleman said in a September 2025 statement on the new routes.
