Drinking alcohol has become a predominant part of American culture, with it being served and sold nearly everywhere and during any occasion.

Unfortunately, if you find yourself at Magic Kingdom, you might have to do some searching, because the places that serve it are few and far between.

Disney World breaks Walt’s no-alcohol rule

Since opening Disney World  (DIS)  in 1971, Walt Disney was against serving alcoholic beverages at any theme park to maintain its family-friendly atmosphere.

However, it all changed in 1982 when Epcot was opened, since its entire theme revolved around world cultures and cuisines, making alcohol a big part of these elements.

The rest of the parks remained dry for many years. Still, due to the huge adult fan base and the success of Epcot’s alcohol introduction, the rest of the parks gradually began serving alcohol at select locations with strict limits to prevent it from getting out of hand.

Although Magic Kingdom resisted these changes for decades, it began selling wine in 2012 at the Be Our Guest Restaurant, breaking its no-alcohol policy for the first time.

Serving alcoholic beverages at a restaurant was the first step into exiting the dry-park zone, and now, Magic Kingdom is about to break another Walt Disney rule.

Disney World’s Magic Kingdom to get its first bar

Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park is finally getting its first-ever bar in late 2025 inside Adventureland. It will be called The Beak and Barrel and is hosted by Captain Merry Goldwyn and her parrot sidekick, Rummy.

The Beak and Barrel is modeled after a pirate tavern and inspired by the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, with themed food and beverages to immerse guests in the experience.

Although a bar, this new addition is open to both adults and children, since it also offers food and non-alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic beverages will only be sold to those over the age of 21, and a maximum of two drinks are permitted per guest.

Disney’s website previously stated that reservations could be made starting June 12. However, the date has since been removed from the announcement.

The company now says they will become available in late 2025 and are limited to 45 minutes per party.
