Dollar Tree has been performing well in 2025. The store saw a 5.4% increase in same-store net sales in the first quarter of 2025, including a 2.5% increase in traffic and a 2.8% increase in tickets.
“Our strong first quarter performance underscores the progress we’ve made against our strategic priorities and is a clear signal that our customers are responding positively to the changes we are making,” CEO Mike Creedon said at the time.

Amid its solid performance, Dollar Tree has now added a convenient new perk. The store unveiled the new perk on Friday, August 29, indicating the goal was to make Dollar Tree more accessible to many customers.
Unfortunately, while the perk may be convenient, it’s also something many of Dollar Tree’s customers will struggle to afford.

Dollar Tree adds new feature aimed at solving customer problem
The new perk that Dollar Tree added is a partnership with Uber Eats that brings 9,000 new stores to the platform.
The announcement stated, “Customers across the U.S. can experience Dollar Tree’s unique shopping experience and the thrill of discovering affordable everyday items from party supplies to cosmetics and more for on-demand delivery.”
The hope is that more people will now be able to access Dollar Tree, even without a car, because they can order it right to their door.
Dollar Tree’s new feature may be good for one particular customer
Most people in the U.S. have cars, but that’s not true of everyone. According to Pew Research, 10% of adults rarely drive vehicles, and 6% have no access to cars at all.

Some of the people who don’t drive do so by choice, because they live in an urban area or because they don’t like cars. There are many others who can’t afford vehicles, though.
In fact, Experian reports that the average new auto loan payment is $745 per month for new cars and $521 per month for used cars. There are a good number of people who simply can’t afford that.
Dollar Tree hopes that partnering with Uber Eats will make it easier for customers to shop
Those without a car may benefit from Dollar Tree’s new Uber Eats partnership, since they can access more affordable goods delivered right to their home.
Here’s what SVP of Retail Merchandising and Marketing Brent Beebe said:
“Bringing Dollar Tree to the Uber Eats platform means customers can now enjoy the great value and everyday essentials they count on, plus the thrill of discovering those unexpected treasures – all with the convenience of same-day delivery. We’re making it easier than ever for our shoppers to access the fun, affordable finds they love, right when and where they need them.”
Dollar Tree customers may not be able to afford the new perk
While it sounds nice in theory for Dollar Tree customers to be able to access delivered goods using Uber Eats, the reality is that getting items delivered isn’t always affordable.
Uber Help has a long list of the fees that may apply to your order. These include:
- A delivery fee
- A local operating fee
- Service fees
- “Other” fees
- Long-range fees
- Small order fees
- Marketplace fees
Just how expensive could Dollar Tree delivery be?
Delivery pricing from Dollar Tree will vary based on many factors, just like all Uber Eats deliveries.
However, a TikTok user named Ravi Wadan recently demonstrated just how ridiculous these charges could become when he showed what an Avocado sandwich would cost if it was delivered versus picked up. Waden said:
“You’re looking at about $17 out the door if you pick the meal up, versus about $40 if I had the meal delivered and leave a somewhat generous tip. Ladies and gentlemen, this is why I only use Uber Eats if I absolutely have to.”
Will Dollar Tree users take advantage of the new feature?
Many Dollar Tree users are cost-burdened and shop at the store to try to get deals. Adding the cost of Uber Eats delivery to the items isn’t going to be financially possible.
However, some customers do live in food deserts and have limited access to affordable items. For this group, it might be beneficial to be able to order, since it allows them to access goods that at least have a lower starting price.

Of course, some customers will choose to get their Dollar Tree items delivered out of convenience, rather than necessity. After all, people use Uber Eats all the time, despite the cost.
Still, this is a perk that will be hard for many of the store’s regular customers to fit into their budget.
