Ikea is best known for its affordable and easy-to-put-together furniture, as well as for its delicious Swedish meatballs for sale in the food court — which are just about as iconic as Costco’s $1.50 hot dog and soda deal.

But, while you may think of cheap food court items, Billy bookshelves and Kyrre stools as the best items to buy from the discount retailer, the company’s new product offering may actually be even more impressive and make an even bigger impact over the long-term than the ability to buy stylish furniture without breaking the bank or the option to remodel your kitchen for less.

Ikea’s new product offering is one to get excited about
Ikea announced its exciting new product earlier this month, and it is one you wouldn’t necessarily expect the store to have available on its shelves.
The new product is an air-to-water heat pump. It’s the latest offering to come out of Ikea’s partnership with Svea Solar, a German company that is famous for renewable energy products. Ikea has actually been working with Svea Solar since 2021 to offer solar panels at affordable prices, although that particular collaboration ended in 2024.

The new heat pump device is expected to work, generating both heat and hot water using ambient air. It’s a far more energy-efficient option than many heating products currently on the market.
“Heating with heat pumps is independent and can reduce your CO2 emissions by up to three-quarters,” Taner Karacan, Managing Director of Svea Solar Germany, said in regard to the new announcement. “We are delighted to mark a new milestone in our successful partnership with IKEA and to support the energy transition in people’s homes.”
Of course, heat pumps are not a brand new technology — but the hope is that through the partnership with Ikea, the products will be more affordable and more accessible to consumers who want to find lower-cost and more planet-friendly alternatives to heating their homes and their water.
Ikea has also been making exciting moves in the home technology space in recent years, and entering into the HVAC space with an environmentally-friendly new option is a continuation of this trend. In fact, while the full product specs haven’t been released, it’s anticipated that the heat pump will incorporate smart controls to make energy management easier.
When will Ikea’s new product become available?
According to the announcement, Ikea’s new heat pump will first be launched in Germany, which makes sense given the company’s partnership with the German solar company.
However, while the timeline for global availability has not yet been announced, it’s not likely to remain exclusively in Germany for long, as Ikea officials have made clear the plan is to make similar technologies more widely available in as many places as possible.
In fact, Jacqueline Polak, Energy Services Manager of Ikea Germany, stated that the goal is to make “renewable energy solutions like heat pumps affordable for the masses.”
