When you head into your local Target during the holiday season, it’s probably more than just a quick errand.
Maybe your Target run is for wrapping paper and stocking stuffers. Or perhaps you’re grabbing groceries, gadgets, toys, or even a festive outfit for Christmas parties.

With consumers juggling gift lists, meal prep, and party plans, having a big-box retailer like Target open with extended hours can make the checkout line feel a little less stressful. During the run-up to Christmas, some stores are open until midnight.
And because holiday shopping can stretch well into the final week of December, knowing when Target will be open — especially Christmas Eve and Christmas Day — can help you plan that last-minute dash for gifts, groceries, or other essentials.

Target will be closed on Christmas Day 2025
Leading up to the Christmas holiday, Target also offers extended hours — many locations stay open until midnight through much of December before scaling back on Christmas Eve, giving last-minute shoppers more time to cross items off their lists.
But if you’re hoping to swing by Target on Dec. 25, you’ll want to make other plans. Target stores across the U.S. will be closed on Christmas Day (Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025) so team members can spend the holiday with family, according to a company announcement.
On Christmas Eve (Wednesday, Dec. 24), Target stores will be open — but with shortened hours: Most stores will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. local time. Hours can vary slightly from store to store, so shoppers should check their local store’s schedule before heading out.
Like most major retailers, Target adjusts its schedule around key holidays. Closing on Christmas Day is common these days. Other major retailers, including Walmart, Costco, Kroger, and Trader Joe’s, all close to give employees time off.
If you need something on Dec. 25 itself, pharmacy and convenience chains, 24-hour stores, and certain licensed locations may remain open.
If you miss the in-store shopping window, Target.com and the Target app remain open 24/7.
