Luxury hotels are marketing to fans of one more popular show

While building an entire hotel around a specific show is an expensive undertaking that rarely pays off, existing hotels often use the hype around a popular show to market themselves.

After the success of similar activations in London and Chicago, The MGM Grand in Las Vegas set up a “Friends Experience” to look like the “Central Perk” coffee shop and characters’ apartments in the hit 2000s-era show.

In western New York State, the resort that hosted the weight-loss reality TV program “The Biggest Loser” has spent more than a decade after the NBC show’s finale marketing itself as the place where visitors can live out their health and slimming dreams.

Love the castle in the “The Traitors”? Hotels launch promotion for fans

With the fourth season of the NBC show “The Traitors” premiering at the start of January, a hotel group in Scotland has become the latest to launch a promotion tailored to its very large fan base. The reality show, based on the original Dutch game show “De Verraders” that debuted in 2021, isolates a group of contestants in the Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands and has them root out those in the group selected to serve as traitors.

If a Traitor remains at the end of the game, they get the entire pot of prize money, while the Faithful, who successfully root out all Traitors, split the funds among them.

Versions in different countries are also often set in historic castles and fortresses to recreate the spooky vibe of betrayal and rooting out the traitors.

A luxury hotel group based in Inverness, Highland Coast Hotels, is now joining in on the hype to their region by launching a “Coastal Castles” promotion in which travelers can spend two nights at the Royal Marine Hotelin Brora and two nights at the Tongue Hotel in Sutherland, along with entry to two nearby castles for those coming to explore The Scottish Highlands.

The fourth season of “The Traitors” premiered on NBC and the Peacock streaming service on January 8.

“A journey through history, beauty and the wild spirit of the North Highlands”

Both Dunrobin Castle and The Castle of Mey are a major source of tourism to the region; the latter was the residence of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother between 1952 and 1996.

“Inspired by the allure of the hit BBC series [the British version of the show airs on BBC] ‘The Traitors,’ our new Coastal Castles Itinerary invites you to explore Scotland’s most captivating castles, lochs, and landscapes from the comfort of our luxurious hotels in Brora and Tongue,” the hotel group writes of the promotion.

Travel news:

“From the fairytale turrets of Dunrobin Castle to the regal charm of The Castle of Mey, this exclusive four-night adventure takes you on a journey through history, beauty, and the wild spirit of the North Highlands.”

The package costs £149 ($200 USD) per night and is designed for two guests who share a standard double room along with breakfast. The nights need to be booked as a minimum four-night package but can also be extended to an additional two nights with a stay at the Lochardil House in Inverness and an entry pass to the Cawdor Castle and Gardens.
