Why we love this deal
When it comes to shoes, there are certain styles where going with the cheapest option is a no brainer. For instance, a basic white tennis shoe doesn’t need to be designer or top of the line to work well and feel comfortable on your feet. But there are other styles where paying more upfront and investing in a quality shoe will pay off in the long run — and that’s never more true than when it comes to finding the perfect workout shoe. Whether you’re weight lifting or logging a few miles before work, you’re going to prefer investing in something that offers support, safety, and comfort to ensure that your feet and body are protected and can perform their very best. You’re not going to want to sacrifice a supportive, well-built shoe simply for the sake of getting something cheaper. That said, just because you’re okay with paying for quality doesn’t mean you should have to pay a fortune for a well-made pair of sneakers, and thanks to REI’s latest sale, you don’t have to.
The outdoor recreational brand is selling the Hoka Mach 6 Road-Running Shoes for 19% right now, meaning you can secure the usually priced $140 sneakers for just $113.

Why do shoppers love it?
These sneakers are sure to put an extra spring in your step — no really, they’re actually designed for extra energy return so that each stride has some extra bounce. The Mach 6 is made with maximum cushioning. It has a super-critical Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA) midsole that is made by injecting gases, like nitrogen or carbon dioxide, into the shoe’s sole to create compressed air-filled bubbles. This not only makes the midsole itself softer, more resilient, and more durable than the standard chemically-expanded EVA foam, but it provides superior shock absorption, flexibility, and comfort for anyone who wears it. It allows better energy return when the shoe connects with the ground, which gives it that energetic “bouncy” feel, and it allows for a lighter shoe, decreasing the weight and load on the runner’s feet and legs, creating a smoother, more consistent stride with each step. And that’s only the beginning.
The interior also has internal gussets, also known as extra fabric that’s attached to the sides of the tongue of the upper part of the shoe, which delivers additional comfort and keeps the middle of the foot locked down and secure. The Hoka’s have a streamlined collar foam package, which minimizes bulk around the ankle area while again, contributing to the comfort, support, and secure fit of the sneaker. On the outside of the sneaker, you’ll find creel jacquard uppers — an engineered mesh that’s lightweight and specialized for running shoes specially. It’s a two-layer design that provides great movement and breathability. There are also gusseted tongues, which create a special sort of seal when the shoes are laced up that’s great at keeping unpredictable elements like water, dirt, sand, and other debris from getting inside the shoe and causing issues like chafing.

The bottom of the shoe, which has a heel stack height of 31 millimeters and a heel-to-toe drop of 5 millimeters, has a durabrasion rubber outsole. This provides strategic rubber coverage for enhanced durability and traction. The sneakers come in 12 different colors, all of which but one are available for the discounted sale price right now. Sizing starts at size 7 and goes up through 13. Sneakers are available in both regular and wide fits.
