Six Flags’ strategic timing amid major theme park changes
The Six Flags’ MVP Sale comes at a very strategic time for the company.
In late February, the amusement park company demolished Kingda Ka, once the world’s tallest roller coaster, at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. The company also announced the permanent closure of Six Flags California Great America.
Speculation recently surged about the definitive shutdown of Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor water park in Bowie, Maryland, but the company has since denied the rumors.

Nonetheless, Six Flags (SIX) had strong financial results for 2024. It generated over $1.4 billion in admission revenue, a 51.6% increase from the year prior, and had an attendance of around 41.6 million, nearly doubling that of 2023.
However, as lucrative as theme parks are, they are just as costly to maintain.
That same year, Six Flags’ operating expenses increased by nearly 45%, leading total costs and expenses to increase by over 60% to around $2.4 billion.
