Spirit Airlines is well known for its low prices — and its somewhat inadequate customer service experience. While not the most complained-about airline in the U.S., it did have the second-highest number of customer complaints to the DOT last year, with only Frontier faring worse with customers.

Lately, though, the airline has been making an effort to upgrade the flying experience and make it at least slightly more pleasant. These efforts include offering “Go Comfy” seats that provide more legroom starting in June of 2025, with the majority of the fleet to have the upgraded seats by July.
Big Front Seats are another innovation added last year. These upgraded seats provide up to 11 inches of extra legroom for passengers, as well as a prime on-plane location.

Beyond just adding better seats, Spirit has also been revamping its loyalty program, adding new perks including free upgrades to both the Go Comfy seats and the Big Front Seats for Free Spirit members and for those who have a co-branded credit card with Spirit Airlines.
The airline isn’t done yet, though. This week, Spirit has announced yet another change that could impact the in-flight experience of customers in a hopefully positive way.

Spirit Airlines makes a big change to its online food offerings
Spirit implemented its latest big change this week – a new in-flight menu available for flyers who want to buy a snack or treat on the flight.
According to Spirit’s announcement, the new upgraded airline menu will be part of its “More Fly” brand campaign and will include over a dozen new menu items.
This includes hearty options like Twisted Noodles® Veggie Ramen for those who want more of a meal replacement, as well as a Quaker® Instant Oatmeal Maple & Brown Sugar as a more filling choice.
There are also a variety of new sweet treats being added, including Grandma’s® Mini Sandwich Cremes Vanilla, as well as new beverage solutions, with the menu now featuring a comprehensive selection of nonaloholic and alcohol-drink choices including Stash® English Breakfast tea, Coca-Cola® Zero Sugar, Samuel Adams® American Light, Voodoo Ranger® IPA and Buzzbox® Cuban Mojito.

Spirit is also promising that there will be more combo options available to those who are purchasing food and drinks, which will help to make purchasing all of the new items more affordable.
“We know our Guests have great taste when they choose to fly Spirit, and now we’re giving them delicious new choices to add more flavor and value to their adventure,” Dana Shapir Alviene, Senior Vice President of Inflight and Airport Experience at Spirit Airlines, said in an announcement about the menu release.
Some Spirit flyers will get free food and beverages
While the new Spirit food offerings are for sale and not free for most passengers, the airline also made clear in its announcement that some flyers would be given access to food in-flight at no added cost.
Guests who have chosen Go Big seating will have complimentary drinks and snacks included as part of the package. This will include alcoholic beverages. This is similar to the policies of many other airlines, where those with upgraded seats can enjoy complimentary cocktails in flight.

Those in the new Go Comfy seats will not go hungry on Spirit flights, either, although they’ll have a few more restrictions. These passengers receive a free More Fly snack mix and a beverage, although drink offerings will be limited to nonalcoholic options.

Passengers outside of these seats will still have to pay for a snack or beverage in-flight, but at least now they have some great new options to pick from, including new combos if they want to enjoy more than one item on the way to their destination.
