When you walk into your local Trader Joe’s, you probably head to the aisle where your favorite TJ’s snacks live.
Maybe it’s the section stuffed with delicious nuts and dried fruit. Or maybe it’s the smorgasbord of sauces that tempts you every time you shop.
Or perhaps Trader Joe’s is your “everything” grocery store because it does stock pretty much every staple you could need, from peanut butter to ground beef to vegetables and eggs.
Whether for its viral snacks or tote bags, Trader Joe’s is also known as a budget-friendly grocer, and these days, that matters.
The Consumer Price Index was still up 3% year over year in September, so plenty of consumers are still keeping an eye on those receipts, and Trader Joe’s delivers there, too.
The fall season is also one of the best times of year to shop at Trader Joe’s, since it’s when you’ll find pumpkin everything, from pancake batter to cookies to the most delicious Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli.
Now, if it’s a whole turkey you’re after, you’re also in luck, because even though Trader Joe’s is considered a specialty grocery, it carries whole turkeys, starting in mid-November.

Trader Joe’s will not be open on Thanksgiving Day 2025
So, yes, you can get pretty much everything on your Thanksgiving meal shopping list from your neighborhood TJ’s, but you’ll have to get there before the stores close on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Some retailers close on certain holidays to give their employees a break. Costco, for example, is known to close on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
But Trader Joe’s is different. The only holidays on which Trader Joe’s closes are New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day; the stores close early on Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve.
Other retailers that close on Thanksgiving include:
- Target
- Walmart
- Sam’s Club
- Publix

While it’s a nice gesture for retailers to give their employees a day off on holidays, some employees prefer to work because they get paid a premium.
That is said to be the case with Trader Joe’s, a company that reportedly pays employees an extra $10 an hour if they work on Sunday or a holiday. Sadly, no employees will get the bump in pay this Thanksgiving because Trader Joe’s will be closed nationwide.
Trader Joe’s is open for its regular trading hours on the day before Thanksgiving, and the day after. For most locations, that means doors open at 8 a.m and close at 9 p.m.; some locations’ hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Trader Joe’s locations are not independently owned, so there should not be any variation, but you can check your local store hours on the Trader Joe’s website.
