Trump says Iran will be hit hard and “at some point” the US will take Kharg Island

Trump writes on Truth Social:

The United States will be hitting Iran (Whose Navy, Air Force, Radar, Anti Aircraft, and all other forms of Defense, together with most of its offensive capability, are GONE!), VERY HARD TONIGHT. At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets, much like we have with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Obviously, Iran does not appear to be backing down despite endless threats from Trump. I can’t imagine the threat of expropriating Iran’s oil and gas is going to land well. Iran has promised to strike energy infrastructure in the region if attacked.

With Trump you never know what’s bluster and what’s real but this is a poor start to the day, once again.

Trump also spoke with Fox News just now and said:

  • We are talking to them
  • My preference would be to take Kharg Island
  • Not sure the US has the appetite for it
  • Says he does not want to deploy ground troops
  • I’d rather note hit bridges and power plants
  • People would not be able to drink water, I don’t want to do that

Oil jumped nearly $2.50 on the Kharg comment and now 20 minutes later, Trump is walking back his own threat with the line that he’s “not sure the US has the appetite for” taking it.
