Any video game console is really only as good as the games you can play on it, but the PS5 has plenty of good news in that department. Sony owns Insomniac Games, for one, which means you get access to games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Spider-Man 2, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart — that one studio alone is reason enough to own a PS5, frankly. But then you’ve got games like Final Fantasy VII Remake, a modern reimagining of Square Enix’s 1997 masterpiece; first-party blockbusters like The Last of Us Part II, the Uncharted series, and Ghost of Tsushima; and multiplatform gems like Helldivers II, the Red Dead Redemption series, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

The hardware itself has 1 TB of built-in SSD storage, which may fill up quickly if you buy a lot of games in a short span of time, but that’s a problem you’ll have with pretty much any modern gaming platform.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is rated M for Mature by the ESRB, so you probably don’t want to give the game to a child, but its multiplayer modes are fairly stylized and tame compared to a lot of the other combat-driven games out there. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the Search and Destroy mode, which has round-based matches with single-kill eliminations and a plant-the-bomb objective to keep the pressure up. Competitive gamers will find plenty to enjoy here, and there’s a cinematic campaign mode with a sci-fi story for players who aren’t big on multiplayer.
