This popular fast-food chain tries an unconventional growth strategy
Over the last few months, Wienerschnitzel has been devising ways to grow its brand across new markets through a more flexible business model.Â
Moving beyond standalone locations, the chain has begun experimenting with unconventional locations such as airports, military bases, theme parks, food courts, and convenience stores that bring high traffic. To ensure success, it’s also attracting high-ranking, multi-unit franchise candidates.
And now Wienerschnitzel fans will be able to enjoy its food right at Walmart.

Walmart is partnering with the hot-dog chain and plans to open six new franchisee-operated restaurants by fall 2025.
“Wienerschnitzel has spent decades building a strong reputation, especially on the West Coast, and this expansion into Walmart stores signifies a new era of growth for the brand,” said Director of Franchise Expansion Shak Turner in a press release.Â
“It’s clear Wienerschnitzel’s unique concept fills a specific void for multi-brand franchisees looking to grow their portfolios, which is one of the elements that attracted me to the brand initially. I’m thrilled to join this amazing team and play a part in spearheading initiatives and new partnerships, which will no doubt catapult the brand to new markets,” she added.Â
Walmart and Wienerschnitzel join forces to open multiple in-store restaurants
Walmart (WMT) , a massive player in the retail industry, is known for partnering with popular American fast-food chains that align with its value-focused customers. Partners have included Burger King, McDonald’s, Domino’s, Taco Bell, and Subway, to name a few.
The retail giant is also known as a one-stop shop. For decades, it has implemented fast food into its locations to live up to its title. This allows customers to shop for necessities and affordably dine while making just one stop.

The select Walmart locations adding Wienerschnitzel restaurants will be Alamogordo, New Mexico; Bakersfield, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Puyallup, Washington; Reno, Nevada; and Tempe, Arizona.
These new Walmart in-store restaurants will preserve Wienerschnitzel’s iconic brand by featuring a full menu and Tastee Freez desserts.
“These non-traditional formats allow us to modernize our footprint, bring our iconic flavors to new audiences, and reinforce the brand’s relevance in today’s evolving retail and dining landscape,” said Wienerschnitzel Director of Franchise Development Ted Milburn. “Growing inside these Walmart locations significantly expands our reach and opens the door for franchisees to tap into high-traffic locations with built-in demand.”Â
