Grilling isn’t necessarily a seasonal hobby — afterall, you can cook outdoors anytime of the year — but it certainly is easier and more enjoyable when the weather is warm and the sun is shining. In order to play chef outside though, you need a grill that’s up to the task for any of your culinary adventures, a large one especially if you enjoy hosting friends and family all through the spring and summer. Why do shoppers love it?

Shopping for a grill can seem overwhelming. You might be an expert griller yourself, but might be unfamiliar with the technology and set up of the machine you love to use so it can be tricky figuring out what to look for. For starters, gas grills like this one can have between two and six main burners. This model has four, which is typically the standard size and perfect for when you’re cooking for a group of four to five people. Powered by a gas propane tank, which sits hidden away underneath the cooking surface, the four stainless steel burners have 8,000 (British Thermal Units) BTU of power each. Each one provides moderate heat for cooking but still measures at a low enough heat to keep control for delicate, low heat tasks, like melting chocolate or butter. The grill also has a 10,000 BTU side burner for a total of 42,000 BTUs, making it suitable for high-performance grilling. 

The cooking area features a 397 square inch main cooking grate area and a 145 square inch warming rack that sits above it for a total of 542 square inches of cooking space — perfect when you want to have multiple pieces of food cooking at once. It actually provides a larger cooking area than similar models of the same size, which usually provide fewer square inches for grilling. The porcelain-enameled cast iron grates offer superior heat retention. They are non-stick and easy-to-clean, so sticky sauces, marinades, or broiled pieces of excess meat can easily be removed. Through a push-and-turn ignition system, you can turn the grill on and off. There’s a built-in temperature gauge and even a bottle opener for when you want to enjoy a cold drink as you man the grill. With the double-layer lid, you get extra heat insulation to help lock in the juices of your food without overheating the surrounding area. A special oil drainage design ensures that that juice and extra grease are caught and drained to prevent build up on the grill.

In addition to the cast iron grates, the grill is primarily made of stainless steel. Measuring 51 inches long, 21.8 inches wide, and 42.3 inches high, the grill has two stainless steel doors which keep the propane tank hidden but make it easy to swap out when it’s empty. There’s also room there to store additional grilling accessories. It also has two galvanized locking casters, and two non-locking casters (also known as wheels) which make it easy to safely maneuver or move when needed. 

What to expect from a $290 grill: Pros and cons

Pros

  • Quality construction: The grill is made with stainless steel and porcelain-enameled cast iron grates that offer superior heat retention.
  • Easy-to-clean: The stainless steel and cast iron grates are easy to clean, with the cast iron grates specifically having a non-stick design. The oil drip tray also ensures proper grease drainage and prevents build up on the grill. 
  • Made-to-manuever: The four wheels make the grill easy to move around. Two of the wheels lock to ensure that the grill doesn’t roll or move when it’s being used.  

Cons

  • Assembly required: It comes with a detailed instruction manual, hose, and regulator necessary for assembling yourself. 
  • Lacking quality: Although the grill feels very sturdy once assembled, some shoppers feel that the grill material itself is lacking in quality.

Although shoppers find the assembly process a bit time consuming and strenuous, many feel that once it’s built, it performs extremely well. It heats quickly and grills food very well. “The grilling area is huge so I can cook multiple items at once without any issue,” one shopper said. The burners heat evenly, preventing any burnt spots on food.” The double-layer lid is a big bonus because it traps heat effectively to keep food warm. “I highly recommend this grill for anyone who loves outdoor cooking,” another shopper said.
