In January, YouTube TV made several important upgrades to its offering, among which was a secret $10 per month discount aiming to stop subscribers from canceling after major sporting events were over.
In the streaming industry, subscriber retention is the biggest challenge, especially for streaming giants for whom a large portion of the offering is focused on seasonal events. Now, those who didn’t catch the previous $10 monthly discount for six months can enjoy an even bigger deal.
YouTube TV’s big discount highlights:
- Discount: YouTube TV is offering $20 off per month to certain current subscribers, reducing the price from $82.99 to $62.99.
- The duration: Depending on your account, the discount lasts for two to four months.
- The total saving: You could save anywhere between $40 and $80 total.
- Who gets it? It’s for certain existing members, with longtime subscribers and those most likely to cancel after sports are over, seeming to have the best luck.
- The catch: You won’t find this in the mobile app; you must use a web browser.

If you recently accepted the $10 dollar discount or any other promotional offer, chances are the $20 discount won’t be available for you. Nonetheless, the streaming giant has just made another major move for all subscribers.
YouTube TV finally rolls out long-awaited cheaper TV packages.
YouTube TV finally rolling out new, cheaper TV packages
I previously covered how back in November, YouTube TV announced its plans for a more affordable premium streaming experience, starting early in 2026. At the time, the streamer confirmed only a launch of a dedicated sports-only package with a great focus on major leagues and events.
Then on January 21, in his annual letter to users, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan confirmed the rollout of fully customizable Multiview, something users have long requested.
More Entertainment:
- Major sports TV network shuts down, leaves fans scrambling
- Paramount+ plans a controversial shift, internal documents show
- Netflix customers angry over cancellation news
He also revealed the launch of “more than 10 specialized YouTube Tv plans spanning sports, entertainment and news, all designed to give subscribers more control.”
Now, finally, YouTube TV has confirmed the long-awaited packages in a Feb. 9 official blog post. The streamer revealed that instead of the full “Base Plan” with more than 100 channels, subscribers can now choose a more affordable plan based on their preferences.
YouTube TV new plans and monthly prices:
- Entertainment plan ($54.99): Focuses on movies, reality TV, and dramas (includes channels such as FX, HGTV, Food Network, Hallmark, and Comedy Central)
- Sports plan ($64.99): Focuses on live games (includes major local networks plus FS1, NBC Sports, and all ESPN channels)
- News + entertainment + family plan ($69.99): A mix of news, entertainment, and kids’ channels (like National Geographic, Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network)
- Sports + news plan ($71.99): Combines the sports lineup with national news networks such as CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC Source: YouTube TV
YouTube TV’s plans are cheaper for new subscribers
New bundle packages come cheaper than the main, most comprehensive plan, which still costs $82.99, unless you are eligible for the abovementioned discount for a few months. This means the new plans can save users between $11 and $28 per month.
Moreover, YouTube TV is using this opportunity to attract new subscribers, with new plans for first-time users even cheaper, starting around $44.99 to $59.99 for the first few months.
Importantly, even on the cheaper plans, users still get access to the following.
- Unlimited DVR storage, one of the key features differentiating the streamer from competitors
- Six accounts for one household and three simultaneous streams
- Add-ons such as NFL Sunday Ticket, NFL RedZone with Sports Plus, HBO Max, and 4K Plus, which can be purchased to create a truly customized viewing experience
The bottom line: Subscribers who have been thinking about canceling due to the price of $82.99 for the base plan can reconsider and opt for a smaller bundle that includes only preferred channels.
YouTube TV’s new offering comes at a time when any discount is appreciated, and as consumers cancel nonessential services to focus on necessities. The special bundles also come after last year’s price hikes among the majority of streaming providers.
Streamers that raised prices in 2025:
- YouTube TV increased its monthly price by $10 to $82.99 in January 2025, according to CBS News.
- Netflix raised prices after revealing its last quarter of 2024 brought in 18.9 million new subscribers.
- Fubo increased prices by $5 per month on all its English-language plans for new subscribers, according to The Streamable.
- Apple TV raised prices for the third time in three years, reported CNBC.
- Disney+ raised its monthly price from $9.99 to $11.99, and from $15.99 to $18.99 per month for an ad-free plan, according to MacRumors.
- HBO Max also increased its subscription fees across all plans, reported TechCrunch.
- Paramount+ increased its prices across all plans on Jan. 15, according to IGN.
YouTube TV’s latest upgrades and milestones
By listening to customer feedback and rolling out targeted updates, the service has successfully expanded its audience over the last few months. These adjustments have paid off, with industry figures showing that YouTube TV is quickly becoming a dominant streamer in the US.
“YouTube TV will surpass Charter and Comcast to become the largest pay-TV operator in the United States by 2027, marking the first time a virtual pay-TV provider will claim the top position in the market,” according to December 2025 data from Omdia.
Another recent YouTube TV upgrade concerns one of its most praised features: Multiview. Last month, the streamer enhanced the feature to allow viewers more freedom in choosing channels they want to see on the screen at the same time.
Instead of previous restriction to certain channel pairings, subscribers can now mix sports, news, cooking shows, and financial market updates.
YouTube TV’s other recent upgrades:
- New 24/7 NBC Sports Network channel (linear relaunch)
- Live C-SPAN, C-SPAN2, and C-SPAN3 added to the base lineup
- Two more sports channels: NBCSN 2 and NBCSN3
- Improved user experience on Android and IOS apps
