- Construction PMI 38.4 vs 40.0 expected
- Prior 38.2
UK construction activity continues to be subdued in June even with slower reductions in new orders in comparison to May. Of note, cost pressures moderated in June and supply chain disruptions were notably less acute than in April and May. But still, it wasn’t enough to really see a marked improvement in conditions and overall activity.
Commercial construction (41.5) was the best-performing category and showed some resilience in June. Meanwhile, house building activity (35.9) decreased at the sharpest pace in 2026 to date. And civil engineering activity (22.1) fell to the greatest extent since April 2020. So, there’s not much of a relief in that sense.
Demand for construction products and materials softened again in June, which helped to alleviate pressures on supply chains. Adding to that, survey respondents noted rising inventories among vendors and fewer instances of shipping delays. Measured overall, supplier performance deteriorated to the least marked extent since March.
